Yangzhou 扬州
once again, let the pictures do the talking for me. surprisingly... it's fun! met loads of new people. locals and thais. and let me tell you these, the BEST looking people, are, indeed... in Fudan's Journalism school. the girls... some of them are really, really hot.
and yes, cute china guys do exist!
瘦西湖
i need to mention a quote of gohshuiling. "khai, 那个瘦皮湖的皮是怎么写的?" faints... girl, its 瘦西湖~~~!!! =D
Let the scenery do the talking.... :) doubt u really wanna hear me talk about water and grass anyway. (im sure dearest linzy wants to hear gossip not about fishes) but. its really, really gorgeous.
one of the first scenes we saw. china really has these classic scenes made into perfection.
I like this shot of us! Lionel's another singaporean who we got to know on this trip! he's cool for a marist... which is pretty rare... haha! super tan. friendly. lame. our siblings go to the same school!
spot lionel acting demure by holding a bunch of little flowers.
bamboo grove.
the flowers are really blooming around me everyday... its beautiful =)
its quite fun being touristy and making silly poses. haha! especially with a bunch of friends =P
Toys heaven
it's this huge place filled with vendors selling soft toys that are horrible replicas of the originals. going at horrifyingly cheap prices. minitoons 19.90 cushions going at 2 bucks. IM NOT CARRYING ANY OF THESE HUGE SOFT TOYS BACK FOR ANYONE, ask for smaller souveniers, guys. haha.
come to think of it, guys, if u wanna propose to your girlfriends with huge teddy bears that cost $200 in singapore... come here and buy la.
i can consider doing courier services, for a small sum of course. =)
何园
Just another yuan in China, we stoned around this place for awhile... nice pictures though!
i risked my life to climb on this stone ledge!!
扬州 food and delicacies
“去扬州看什么?”
“扬州炒饭啦!”
god knows how many times i heard that reply from people before i went for the trip.
but seriously we spent quite some time LOOKING for the fried rice laaa.... and it tastes exactly like your $3 fried rice from the kopitiams. ah fang's fried rice is nicer.
oh! the picture above. (left to right) 1. THE fried rice. 2. Brown porridge with banana and milk. 3. 天下第一粥. you got to give the chinese credit for coming up with creative dishes that tastes awfully... normal.
the food in yangzhou is awfully oily. i soaked up 4 pieces of tissue at one particularly famous restaurant. shudders....
Western Dinner
After a long bus ride back. i. finally. had. WESTERN FOOD! ie, pasta and the-world's-biggest pizza. spot the glee on my fat face. haha!
Random Shots
Town area of yang zhou. it's just like any other chinese city. filled with people, noise, HORNS, and pollution. the dust was so thick we could hardly see through it.
shui took this picture from a trishaw. its cool! the trishaw riders were fighting over us. we sat in the carriage in fascination as our lady driver yelled against this chinese uncle at the top of her voice. the people here argue non stop, every where, anywhere. blah. im getting used to ignoring their argumenst anyway. BOO!
Anyone ever saw this cool advertising gimmick?!?!? This guy circulated the shou xihu area for quite some time. someone give me his/her job!!
Lionel pouting (under shui's rapid fire commands) with shui's granny sunglasses. CLASSIC!!!
and as revenge... lionel posing happily beside shui's sleeping position... haha!
my personal favourite of all the pictures taken... shui has taken command of her cam's manual function. changed the aperture such that she got the focused-on-fore-ground-blurred-background effect. =)
Antique Street: Dong Tai Lu (东台路)
Our little trip down to this street filled with antiques turned me into a photo whore. Well contrary to popular belief. at least I was the one behind the camera and not in front of it! =D Check out the pictures below.
How the street looked like when we first saw it. A whole row of little stalls filled with curious trinkets, many of which seems to be replicated and reproduced and obviously not worth the quoted price.
The items on sale. It ranges from terracotta figurines, to karma-sutra scrolls (complete with all kinds of sexual positions), to swords and CCP memorabilia.
Shui and Zhen doing some shopping!
Funny Pictures
The guys are really, really into weird costumes. They seem to be constantly on the look-out for more and more odd clothes and accessories to buy back to Singapore for costume parties. Are there really that many costume parties? Haha!
Wenshan in his Red-Army costume… 毛主席万岁!
Shawn in his weixiaobao specs…. And yes he bought it!
Amos got pulled into trying out an er-hu by some friendly uncles. Created quite some scene as he attempted to play it… a huge crowd formed! Haha! And he ended up buying the er-hu for around S$25… Shawn bought a dizi as well…
POOR HUIYI!!! Not only has she got to put up with seeing 3 prancing guys in boxers, now she has to hear the melodius chorus of er-hus and dizis around the house. O.O
This claws look like they can KILL don’t they? It looks like it can be used for 九银白骨爪… =D
Education
It was really quite an educational trip actually.
The masses of real badges which have survived the ages of time. The uncle who was selling the badges told us a hell lot about Chinese history. He’s actually an avid badge collector, and brought out his private collection to show us! Did you know, there were badges printed that were anti-CCP? Most badges have Mao’s head facing the left. Badges with Mao’s head facing the right were actually worn by anti-Maos! Every badge had their own serial number too… it’s cool. I bought 2!
We had some tea-tasting too… didn’t know all of us were so Chinese-inclined. This cute china guy let us sample about 10 different kinds of tealeaves. Oh I found out Shawn learnt 三字经 (the REAL one, NOT the vulgarities one) the same way as me!!! From that cassette with 小胖 in it… gawds… it was so funny when we both started humming the opening song of the tape! =D
Random Shots
Spot the teracotta soldiers in the crates.
They sell birds here as well...
People gambling along the streets. a very common sight in Shanghai.
some icecream while walking. are we nuts? cornetto here's 60 cents. haha.
Old Streets
Just a side mention, the place we went to really showed us the older side of Shanghai.
KFC Eggtarts
It was dinner after a long day. I declare the eggtarts at KFC here one of the best i have ever eaten. SINGAPORE KFC HAS TO BUCK UP!!
Cooking
OK. DID I MENTION THAT WE COOKED? NO? OK ME AND SHUILING WHIPPED UP A HUGE FEAST AT THE LAW PEOPLE'S APPARTMENT!!!
ok lets me modest here... its not really a huge feast and its actually our first time cooking for 7 people but what the hell, there's always a first time ok!!! We spent 3 long hours preparing the food!
Shui in the midst of preparation.
The dishes.
#1 Mashed Potato
#2 Tung-hoon with quail's eggs and mushroom
#3 南瓜 with tung-hoon and hei bi...
#4 Fried omelette with mushroom and sausages
#5 Fried Rice
#6 四季豆 with 酱油鸡。
ok i bet linzy's rolling her eyes and ky and vanny are laughing their asses off because NO ONE THINKS I CAN COOK and i bet jing and jinny is thinking KHAIYAN IS SO SPOILT HOW CAN SHE COOK and i bet my dearest sister and brother are laughing their assess off thinking of me cooking but THE FOOD WAS NICE OK!!! just ask the NUS law people. HAH! i can cook!! yan can cook!!! BWAHAHAHHAHAHA!!
DONT MESS WITH ME MAN!! =D
BOO!! Did I happen to scare you with my new haircut? Hehe!! Don’t blame me for not being able to sleep ok… Went for a hair treatment and hair cut for about S$30. The idiot chopped off my fringe accidentally but Shui insisted on making it the way it is now! I shall be PROUD of my new hairstyle okie… must start learning from Jinny and be more adventurous =P
Icecreams
I finally got to eat my first ice cream in this freezing weather… one word… SHIOK!!! You guys should try it if you can!
Taiwanese Food
Finally got to try out some Taiwanese food… ok I’m talking about food AGAIN. Hehe it costs all over S$2 plus at a small café. Shall stop gushing cause the food wasn’t really that great.
Chilling
We checked out the pubbing scene at 新天地 with the law peeps… whoah… it’s really flooded with angmohs. I figured me and Shuiling were the youngest girls at the place.
Every table had people smoking. I was choking on the smoke…. Faints…
In China you really have to wash your hair everyday. at the end of each day your hair really, really stinks. why do people smoke... seriously!
Random Shots
Times Square. It is an abandoned mall filled with high end shops. Its like our Takashimaya, but an utterly deserted version. Maybe the rich people all flew to paris to shop instead.
This is… actually… a house. Located in the pubbing area. Wonder which rich fella bought a house in this area~!
